With our full range of beers and the culinary medley offered on our menu, we know that it might sometimes seem daunting to pair the perfect beer with the right dish. It can be just as complicated as pairing wine with food. Of course, we want nothing less than for you to completely enjoy your entire experience here, so we've included a few hints for general beer and food matching: Think of bigger beers as red wines and lighter beers as white wines. In other words, when red meats, or any dishes you would normally pair with red wine, is on the menu, select our Pullman Porter or Vanilla Bourbon Stout. Conversely, if the main course is fish or poultry, you might want to try something a litlle lighter such as our Golden Ale or Honeymoon Wheat Ale. Hoppiness in beer = acidity in wine. Any time you would seek a wine with high acidity, such as with spicy or oily food, choose a beer with significant hoppiness like our Rockford Bay IPA. The more acidic you prefer the wine, the hoppier you will want the beer. Complement or contrast. Try to match food to beers with complementary characteristics such as our Jack Daniels New York with the Vanilla Bourbon Stout. A great rule to follow when trying to complement beers to food is to order the same beer that is used in the preparation of the dish you are enjoying. Or try a contrasting flavor such as a crisp, refreshing Honeymoon Wheat Ale with a cream dish such as the Sea Scallops and Prawn Pasta.
Chef Barry is at it again!
Executive Chef Barry Matthews broke out the pasta machine again! This week Chef Barry made some wonderful Lobster Ravioli. He started by making the pasta dough and hand cranking it thru the pasta machine a total of 16 times! Then after he had the feeling back in his arm, he sauteed tender lobster with fresh herbs and stuffed the shells. The dish is finished with a light lemon cream sauce.
