Celebration Beers

Back | Subscribe

We often focus on the great food and great service at the Steam Plant Grill, but today, beer is our main topic.  The Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company was originally founded in 1908 along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene as leads into the Spokane River (where the NIC campus is now).  We don’t have the great lakeside location that they enjoyed until Prohibition began, but we are celebrating the creation of the brewery 100 years ago with a series of one-of-kind brews.

If you have not been stopping by, you may have already missed our first celebration beers; a special edition of cask-conditioned Porter aged in wine barrels from L’Ecole Winery. We are still pouring our second celebration beer; our Birthday Bock. This traditional German lager style Mai Bock was brewed in October of last year, and as with tradition, has been conditioning all winter waiting for spring to be released. Stop in soon, as this Birthday Bock has become our Mug Club favorite and will not last long!

Coming out next is our HOT Foot IPL.  No, there was no typo, it is IPL, not IPA, so it is an India Pale-style lager, which Laurie Kraus, our Head Brewer, calls an Idaho Pale Lager.  This beer is named on honor of one brewers, Cody, who unfortunately spilled one of our caustic cleaning chemicals onto his foot about this time last year.  Cody suffered through a skin graft surgery, so we figured the least we could do is remind everyone of his accident annually by brewing a batch of HOT Foot.  We will be pouring that within the next couple of week at all three locations, so please stop in and raise a glass to Cody, his hot foot and his HOT Foot IPL.

Coming up in June, we will release a Doppell Bock, which we haven’t done in a while, and our piece de resistance, 100 Year Barley Wine.  This barley wine is as big, full and deep as a beer should be to recognize 100 years of Coeur d’Alene beer.  We will give you more of description when it comes out.

Later in the year, we will be having a brewer’s dinner in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene and a Homebrewer’s Contest in October.  So, please come down to try one of our celebration beers or your old favorite, brought to you by Laurie, Greg, Cody, Brent, Ben & Kylie.
