Spring is finally here and to make up for it being so late, it is time to get outside and enjoy it. Whether you decide to celebrate with a walk in the park, a bike ride on one of our trails or shopping downtown, the Steam Plant Grill is ready to help make your life easier by having a meal ready and a pint ready to pour. If your outdoor pursuits include serious cycling, the Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company has the event for you. The 2nd Annual Tour of Pain is a 200-mile, one-day event on July 12. If you aren't a serious cyclist, you may think that is a typo, but a hard-core group of riders commit the time and training to be able to pull off the double-century in a day. Our ride covers lots of scenic territory, including a bit of everything our area has to offer. We ride on local trails, through some scrub-brush and pine tree areas, into the Palouse, through North Idaho, along numerous rivers and we make it all the way around beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene. Everyone who enters gets a commemorative t-shirt and a schwag bag with goodies from the Steam Plant Grill, the Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company and from our other supporting sponsors, DOMA Coffee, Hammer Gel and Great Harvest Bakery. In addition, every FINISHER gets an embroidered vest, a trophy and a podium picture, valued at over $100. If you are interested in more information, please go to www.cdabrewing.com/tourofpain.html for more descriptions and a registration form. The Steam Plant Grill is also supporting a completely different type of riding by hosting the wrap-up party for Bike-to-Work Week in Spokane on Friday, May 16, 4.30-6.30 pm. You can go to www.biketoworkspokane.org for more information on the week's activities and information about getting started with commuting to work on your bike. As they say, "Work to Eat. Eat to Live. Live to Bike. Bike to Work." The Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company will also be offering specials to Bike to Work'ers in Coeur d'Alene (see www.bikecda.org). Please join us for one of these special activities or stop in anytime for a meal made right here by our trained staff using fresh foods, local ingredients and no boil bags ever. Gage Stromberg Steam Plant Grill / Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company PS - This week we hosted a tv crew filming a pilot for the Discovery Channel. The film crew and host show up at the airport and are handed plane tickets to go someplace for 48 hours. They don't know where they will be going, where they will stay or what they will do while they are there. This time, they choose Spokane and got on a plane with no plans. They asked people on the plane what they should be sure to do while they were in town and we are pleased that the Steam Plant Grill came up repeatedly as a "must not miss" place to go in Spokane. When we have airing information, we will pass it along, but in the meantime, we appreciate being known as a landmark stop in our area. Thank you for your support.
