Beer Lore

There are certain myths and legends which have become a part of beer lore that are far from accurate.  Here are some common misconceptions about beer:

Darker beers are heavier and, therefore, more alcoholic. A beer's color is a factor of the types of malts used in the brewing process. Roasted grains are darker and typically produce less sugars and therefore less alcohol. Alcohol is the wonderful by-product of the metabolism of these sugars by yeast. While some stouts and strong ales are dark in color, some lighter-colored beers, such as German maibocks, can be higher in alcohol.

Bock is the beer left over at the bottom of the tank. This myth may have developed as a result of bock's often darker color and stronger flavor and the fact that bocks are lagers and therefore aged longer.

Wheat beers need a slice of lemon. The practice of adding a lemon slice to some more tart wheat beers does have some basis in tradition. However, this practice, like serving temperature, is a matter of individual preference.

Mug Club

If you look above our bar, you'll see that our Mug Club Membership is growing. Have you reserved your "peg" yet? Your $15 membership entitles you to your very own 22-ounce ceramic mug that we'll clean and store here at the restaurant.  On any visit, any time of any day, just present your membership card to your server and we'll retrieve your mug for you and fill it with one of our award-winning beers for only $2.75. Our standard 23-ounce Stack of beer is $5.00, so you'll quickly get back your membership fee in the savings.

Beer To Go

No, we won't pour your unfinished beer in a coffee cup for you to take with you, but we do have other options for those of you wishing to enjoy our beers at home. You can try one of our half gallon growlers, filled with your choice of our beers. Or, if your thirst (and probably the thirst of several friends) is greater than a half gallon can quench, most of our beers are available in kegs, starting at $89. Ask your server or call our front desk for availability and pricing.

Quote of the Week

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than to be selfish and worry about my liver."
